Montreal-based real estate company Leyad has acquired The Bay Centre, signalling a new chapter for one of downtown Victoria’s most recognizable retail destinations.
The new ownership plans to revitalize the 420,000-square-foot shopping centre by attracting a more diverse mix of retailers while reimagining the former Hudson’s Bay anchor space with potential uses including office space, experiential attractions and cultural tenants.
Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce CEO John Wilson welcomed the acquisition, noting it presents an opportunity to diversify the centre with a mix of retail, professional services and attractions that better reflect changing consumer needs.
While plans are still in the early stages, Leyad says visitors could begin seeing changes as early as 2027, and there are currently no plans to rename The Bay Centre. Read the full article on CTV news.
