Victoria Butterfly Gardens is supporting a longtime butterfly farming partner in Colombia after a devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake left Vanessa, owner of Alas de Colombia, and her mother without homes.

The sustainable butterfly farm has supplied Victoria Butterfly Gardens with butterflies since 2019, raising species including Blue Morphos, Giant Owls and Malachites. The butterflies are carefully nurtured through their early life stages before being shipped as pupae to Vancouver Island, where visitors can watch them emerge at the Gardens.

To support Vanessa and her family as they rebuild, Victoria Butterfly Gardens will donate 10% of all admission revenue through September 30 directly to the family. Guests can also make an additional donation at the Gardens.

“Our relationship has grown far beyond a business partnership, and Vanessa and her family have become valued members of our extended butterfly community,” said Ronalea Durrance, General Manager of Victoria Butterfly Gardens. “We want them to know that their friends here in Victoria stand with them as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding.”
