Victoria Police Chief Fiona Wilson has been recognized as a Leader at the 2026 Women of the Year Awards, celebrating her decades of service and leadership in law enforcement.
Wilson, who became the first woman to lead the Victoria Police Department in 2025, has spent more than 30 years advancing community-focused policing and improving responses to mental health and substance use crises.
During her time with the Vancouver Police Department, Wilson led groundbreaking research examining the growing number of crisis-related police calls. Her 2007 report, Lost in Transition, helped drive the expansion of specialized mental health response units and strengthened partnerships between police, health-care providers, and community organizations.
Throughout her career, Wilson has championed collaborative approaches to public safety, emphasizing the importance of partnerships between policing, health, housing, and social service sectors.
As Victoria’s first female police chief, Wilson continues to advocate for greater representation of women in law enforcement and leadership roles. She encourages women considering a career in policing to learn about the profession and pursue opportunities that align with their passion for serving their communities.
When asked about her proudest accomplishment, Wilson points to her three children.
